Founded in 1927, Tool & Steel has seen many changes in its working practices and processes.
The company was formed as a tool maker to the ship building industry and had offices around the UK. During the Second World War Tool & Steel contributed to the war effort by becoming an armaments factory run by women who later became known as “The Women of Steel.
Tool and Steel became experts in the manufacturing of closed die tool making and led the country’s supply of bracketry and fixtures for use underground in the coal mining industry.
This core part of the business contributed a high proportion of turnover to the company however in recent years the coal industry has been in gradual decline due to environmental pressures and overseas competition.
